Does your doctor treat you right?

I heard the commercial of a doctor I had a bad experience with today. It made me think about how people are treated by their chosen physician. Does your doctor treat you with the respect and compassion you deserve? What kind of relationship do you have with your doctor?

Did you see the article in Reader's Digest last month, about things your doctor won't tell you? It was interesting the things that doctors check themselves on.

Regarding weight, one doctor said that if he tells a patient that they need to lose 50 pounds, they usually really need to lose 100! Another doctor was irritated at the way patients approach him, to be "fixed" whenever they have problems. He said people need to be proactive with their health to prevent getting sick. Exercise, diet and regular checkups are the responsibility of the patient, not the doctor.

It was a great piece, and opened my eyes.

It's important to have a doctor who listens to your concerns, but it's also important to listen to the doctor. If you don't agree with what he's saying to you, it's OK to get a second opinion!
